In-class Micro Experiential Activities for Buddhism Courses
He, Yongshan, University of Winnipeg
Abstract
In this article, I share my personal approach to experiential learning and some related in-class activities that I employ in my Buddhism courses. These activities are “micro” in the sense that they can be done in 15 to 20 minutes, require no extra resources or logistics, and are flexible enough to be incorporated into and transferable across course content. These include acting out primary texts, gamified simulation of historical accounts, designing and embodying a meditation script, and creative engagement with difficult concepts. Experientially oriented, such activities transform course content into more engaging and accessible formats, encouraging students to explore new ways of seeing, interacting with and experiencing the world around them.
