Editor's Introduction: Buddhist Studies Pedagogy in Contemporary Canada—A Snapshot of the State of the Field

Jensen, Christopher, Carleton University

Abstract

This article introduces our special issue: Buddhist Studies in the Post-Secondary Classroom in 2026: Perspectives from Canada and Beyond. My introduction has two primary aims. First, I provide a data-driven exploration of the state of postsecondary Buddhist Studies pedagogy in Canada, in 2026, using university course calendars, class schedules, and program websites to assess the ways our discipline is being taught (and by whom). Second, in response to both these data and my own experiences as an educator, I reflect on what we (as teachers) can do to respond adequately to the challenges being faced by students at this time.
